To give you a straight-forward answer...very likely.
But in today's modern world, disc injuries are typically over-dramaticized -- especially long-term effects. Let's take a deeper, simplified look.
Two of the most common words used for disc injuries are "disc bulge" and "disc herniation". What is the difference? A disc bulge when the 'jelly' of your intervertebral disc start to creep away from the center. It is usually a common aging phenomenon that doesn't typically cause any pain or aggravating symptoms. Don't let this term scare you.
A disc herniation can and often is more severe -- bringing along pain in the area of the back and/or down the arms or legs depending on the location of the disc herniation. Herniations have varying degrees of significance ranging from successful treatment through conservative care (Chiropractic, PT, etc) or surgical intervention -- the latter not being common.
Although these two terms are different, various forms of conservative care can help both. For example, EverWell Chiropractic in Centennial, CO offers flexion distraction which allows that disc materal to creep back towards the center of the disc alleviating symptoms significantly. Other corrective exercises like cobra back bends, which place your body into extension, also pushes the disc material towards the center.
The biggest issue today with disc bugles and disc hernations is the fear-mongering of how it will affect you long term. Research suggests that even if you did NOTHING for it, the body will heal itself in 18 months -- assuming there is no reaggrevation within that time frame. Understand that you can come back from a disc injury and it may never be a problem again. You are not fragile.
